Clearing storm magic, ElCapitan, Yosemite, CA

This photo continues the story from the previous posted image on 22nd Feb. Having taken that shot, we finally reached El Capitan Meadow (a meadow in front of the towering granite monolith) and for the next hour were blessed with the beauty and divinity of clearing storms and golden light. It was just like magic. Within a split second, the clouds will come, and in the next moment, a hole will build up in the eastern sky bathing the scene with warm, soft golden light and then the clouds over ElCapitan will start moving creating a fleeting magical moment. The light after this will either disappear or will become too harsh.

In those moments, I decided to compose El Capitan with the green trees around it. The trees provide a frame, give a height perspective and their warm tones add to the mood of the photo. I took around 40 shots exhausting all the compositions (zoom in, wide angle, vertical, horizontal, different foregrounds etc). This is one of those and the light in this is one of the best.

Post processing involved tweaking white balance, contrast, mild sharpening and jpeg conversion; all in Photoshop.
