First Light, Yosemite Valley, Yosemite, CA

Posted by Vaibhav (Stanford, United States) on 1 March 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

The present photo was taken from the famous 'Tunnel View' spot in Yosemite. A series of rainstorms moved in throughout night and by the clouds were trapped in the valley forming nice leading lines over the trees.
We woke up before dawn and quickly drove to Tunnel View only to find ourselves lined up alongside 20 more cameras. As the day started to break, the light became warmer and the clouds in the eastern sky provided nice diffused even light throughout the valley.

I composed vertically as it allows the eye to be drawn into the frame and the mist/clouds in the valley floor hold the frame together. The Bridalveil fall help balance out ElCapitan in the frame.

Post processing involved tweaking exposure, white balance and contrast followed by conversion to JPEG in Photoshop.
