Morning waves at sunrise, CA-1, California

Posted by Vaibhav (Stanford, United States) on 5 February 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Last Sunday, I was out at dawn trying to shoot a full moon set over the Pacific. The clouds on the western sky though did not cooperate and hence I could not make the desired image. But as most of the other times, Mother Nature had something else in store.

The cloudy morning resulted in a soft diffused light over the ocean and with the high tide waves reaching almost the coast, there were interesting patterns to be captured. I observed the waves and decided that a shutter speed in the range of 1/4 to 1.5 seconds will allow me to capture the mood of the Pacific ocean. I waited for the waves to recede a bit which revealed the rocky coast and when the next big wave decided to submerge the rocks again, I made this photo.

Post processing involved white balance adjustment, mild sharpening and conversion to JPEG, all in Photoshop.
